A man has died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a house.

The collision happened at around 8.20pm on Saturday on the A947 Banff to Turriff road at Plaidy, Aberdeenshire.

Front seat passenger Leslie Stuart, 58, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Mr Stuart, from Aberdeen, died at the hospital on Monday, Police Scotland confirmed.

The 41-year-old man who was driving the car remains at the infirmary with a fractured leg.

Sergeant Colin Matheson said: "Our thoughts at this time are with the family and friends of those involved."

Officers want to hear from anyone who saw the collision or who saw a red Audi A4 estate car being driven on that road on Saturday evening.
