A man has been charged after a teenager died following an industrial accident during a work placement.

Michael McLean, 17, was injured at Denholm MacNamee in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, in August 2015.

He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he was placed in an induced coma, but his injuries were too severe for recovery and he was taken off life support a week after the accident.

The incident happened on the schoolboy's last day of a work placement at the firm.

On Friday, police said a 21-year-old man had been charged in relation to the incident. Details of the charge were not revealed.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal and the 21-year-old will appear in court at a future date.
