Thieves stole hair straighteners worth hundreds of pounds during a break-in at a salon in Aberdeen.

The front window of Tek-Nique Hair Design on Hollybank Place was smashed during the raid, which was reported just after midnight on Tuesday.

Boxes of hair straighteners on display, including GHDs, were stolen from the premises, leaving the salon around £650 out of pocket.

Owner Lisa Longmuir, 49, said it was the first theft in the shop's 27-year history.

She said: "I was absolutely gutted, when I heard the window had been smashed I knew exactly what they would have gone for.

"I had to stay here all night because I couldn't get the window repaired.

"I've had glass smashed before but this is the first time someone's taken something.

"All of our friends and neighbours have been great."

The hairdressers was opened again on Tuesday and the damaged window has been boarded up.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police are investigating following a break-in at a hair salon on Hollybank Place.

"Electrical equipment worth a three-figure sum of money was taken.

"Anyone who saw anything of has any information is asked to contact police on 101."
