The funeral of a mountaineer killed in a fall in Glen Coe will be held next week.

Fred Maclean, from Aberdeen, fell while walking the Aonach Eagach Ridge on Saturday.

The 44-year-old, who had climbed 218 Munros in his lifetime, suffered fatal injuries.

A service will be held at 11.30am on Monday at Shawbost Free Church on Lewis, where he was born.

Mr Maclean's family said he was "always an outdoors person" and "loved hillwalking".

They have raised more than £2000 for the Glencoe Mountain Rescue team, who retrieved his body.

His sister, Marina Fraser, said: "Our family will be forever grateful for the volunteers of the Glencoe MRT for carrying his body off the mountain.

"The running costs of the team run to tens of thousands of pounds each year and without these donations the team simply would be unable to operate at the current level."
