A man has died in hospital after being knocked down by a bus in Aberdeen city centre.

Douglas Rae was hit by the Stagecoach vehicle on Union Street on Monday, August 29.

The 59-year-old was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries and died at the weekend.

A number of people went to Mr Rae's aid after the collision and police have asked them to contact the force.

Sergeant Dave Pirie said: "Our thoughts are obviously with Mr Rae's family and friends at this very sad time.

"Enquiries into the incident are still on-going and as such I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact Police.

"We believe there was a number of people who came to Mr Rae's assistance in the moments after the collision, and I would particularly appeal for them to come forward by contacting the force on 101."
