Princess Anne has cancelled public engagements next week while she recovers from a bad chest infection, Buckingham Palace has said.

The Princess Royal, who has been staying at Balmoral, is understood to have undergone tests at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and is now recovering at home.

The Princess attended the Braemar Gathering at the weekend along with the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales.

A spokesman for the Palace said: "On doctors' orders she has cancelled her engagements for the coming week. She is resting privately at home."

The annual Braemar Gathering is held a short distance from the royal retreat on the Balmoral estate, where they often stay during the summer months.

Prince Philip was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to be treated for a bladder infection while staying at Balmoral in 2012.
