A road was shut in Aberdeen city centre after a pane of glass plunged more than five storeys to the ground from an office block.

The pane fell from the Capitol building and landed on Justice Mill Lane at around 2pm on Friday.

The road was closed while firefighters used a cherrypicker to remove loose broken glass from the window.

Nobody was injured in the incident and the road reopened shortly after 2.50pm.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 2pm and sent a height appliance and a support vehicle.

"The glass fell from the sixth or seventh floor but there were no injuries.

"Firefighters used the height vehicle and some small tools to secure some broken glass left behind in the window pane."

The £30m conversion of the Capitol Theatre into a 12-storey office block was completed earlier this year and its first tenant is expected to move in soon.

Next door, the £65m Silver Fin building is scheduled to open in March next year.
