A man charged with raping a woman in Aberdeen has been freed from custody.

The alleged incident took place on Bon Accord Crescent in the early hours of Friday morning.

The 20-year-old had been expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday but was later released from custody while further enquiries are carried out.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "The procurator fiscal received a report concerning a 20-year-old man in connection with an alleged incident said to have occurred on September 9.

"After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, he was liberated from custody pending further inquiries and did not appear in court."
