The bomb squad was called to Aberdeen Beach after a member of the public found what they believed was an explosive device.

Police cordoned off a stretch of coastline between the Beach Ballroom and Bridge of Don following the discovery on Tuesday morning.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team examined the item and found it was not explosive.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 10.45am today a member of the public called police to advise they had come across what they thought was a suspected explosive device on Aberdeen beach.

"Police put a cordon in place to ensure public safety.

"Officers from EOD attended this afternoon to assess the device but deemed the item as non explosive and not a risk to the public.

"Members of the public are thanked for their patience whilst the cordon was in place."
