Two Aberdeen restaurants have shut their doors after a "challenging" year.

The Adelphi Kitchen and Cue Barbecue both closed suddenly on Wednesday.

It follows the news last week that Aberdeen's Albyn Bar had been put up for sale.

Chris Tonner, managing director of owner Beetroot Restaurants, said: "It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that today we have to announce that Beetroot Restaurants will cease trading.

"It's safe to say that sustaining local, independently-sourced restaurants in Aberdeen over the last 12 months has been a challenge that unfortunately has beaten us.

"We would like to thank all our customers, suppliers, staff and friends for all the support over the last eight-plus years in business. What a journey it has been."

The Adelphi Kitchen, formerly La Stella, was one of Aberdeen's best-reviewed restaurants.
