Two cars have been found abandoned after thieves broke into a ski shop in Aberdeenshire.

The incident at Braemar Mountain Sports happened at around 2.50am on Wednesday.

A red Mini and a silver Volkswagen Passat seen nearby during the crime were discovered in Aberdeen on Wednesday morning.

Detective inspector Stuart McAdam said: "Enquiries are at a very stage and several lines of inquiry are currently being pursued.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area around the time to contact Police on 101 as soon as possible if you believe you have any information that could assist.

"Crimes of this nature are extremely rare in the community and I can assure the public that the safety and security of businesses in the area is a priority for Police Scotland."
