A 61-year-old man has died while working at an electrical substation in Moray.

Police were called to the substation next to Blackhillock quarry in Keith at around 8.50am on Tuesday.

It is understood an employee of engineering firm BAM Nuttall died after sustaining injuries during a "tragic" incident at the substation.

The firm are working in partnership with Siemens to build new substations in Moray and the west of Scotland.

A statement from Siemens BAM Nuttall Joint Venture said: "We can confirm that one of our employees from BAM Nuttall has died following injuries sustained in an incident at the Blackhillock substation, west of Inverness, Scotland, on Friday morning."

Stephen Fox, Chief Executive, BAM Nuttall, added: "Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to all of the family, friends and colleagues of our employee, who was involved in this tragic incident.

"We are working closely with all relevant agencies and authorities and a full investigation is under way."

Officers are now working with the Health and Safety Executive to establish the circumstances of his death.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police and the HSE are making enquiries following the death of a man near Blackhillock Quarry, Keith, at around 8.50am today.

"Enquiries are at an early stage and are ongoing to establish the circumstances and next of kin.

"As with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

A spokesman for HSE added: "I can now confirm HSE is investigating alongside Police Scotland."
