A football fan was injured after a coin was thrown at her following Aberdeen's home game against Celtic.

The Aberdeen FC supporter was struck by the item at Pittodrie Stadium after the final whistle on Saturday afternoon.

Shocked fans took to social media to voice their shock at the incident after the Scottish Premiership match, in which Celtic beat Aberdeen 1-0.

A photograph of the victim holding her face in pain was also shared online.

A police spokesman said: "Following the end of the match a 53-year-old woman was struck with an object and sustained injury.

"An investigation is ongoing and witnesses are asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
