An armed thief pointed a gun at staff during a raid at a newsagent in Aberdeen.

The robber made off with less than £100 from Icon Stores on George Street on Monday.

He also took a small number of items from the shop in the theft, which happened shortly after 6am.

Police Scotland detective sergeant Jamie Sherlock said: "We would like to directly appeal to people travelling home using this route to think about if they saw anything on their way in this morning.

"I would also urge commuters who travel through George Street in the morning to contact police if they spot anything unusual.

"No one was injured in the incident, however, it is obviously concerning. Officers will be in the area carrying out enquiries and patrols will be stepped up.

"If you have information contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

The robber was described as white, around 5ft 8in and in his late teens or early 20s.

He was wearing a dark waterproof hooded jacket, dark tracksuit bottoms and trainers.
