Police are appealing for mobile phone footage from Aberdeen's match against Celtic after a woman was hit in the face with a coin.

The 53-year-old woman, from Aberdeen, was struck in the face just after the final whistle on Saturday's game at Pittodrie.

Images posted on social media showed the woman bleeding and holding her face.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any mobile phone footage to come forward.

Match commander chief inspector Murray Main said: "As anticipated the vast majority of fans who attended the game acted in an entirely appropriate manner and I am sure most enjoyed the football, if not the result.

"Unfortunately one or two individuals chose to conduct themselves in a completely unacceptable manner and officers from the Alcohol & Violence Reduction Unit are already reviewing CCTV and carrying out other enquiries to identify the individual or individuals responsible for causing a nasty injury to a female fan at the end of the game.

"I appeal directly to all football fans and those present at the game - if you know who was responsible or saw anything which may assist, or if you have any information, please come forward and tell the Police, advise the clubs or call Crimestoppers.

"We are also asking for any mobile phone footage which could potentially assist our enquiries to be brought to our attention or that of either clubs."

CI Main added: "I think the majority of football minded people will be totally disgusted by this recklessness and unacceptable behaviour irrespective of the team they follow.

"It is important we trace those responsible and prevent anyone else from becoming a victim of this shameful conduct.

"I appeal to anyone with any information about the incidents in question, please help us with our inquiries and contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers if you would prefer to remain anonymous on 0800 555111."
