The opening of a new arts centre in Aberdeen has been hit by another delay.

Construction work on the £6m facility was finished in July, almost 18 months late and £3m over budget.

It was due to welcome its first visitors last month, but the centre was not ready.

A handful of local residents will instead be given a tour of the building on November 19.

It will eventually house hundreds of works of art which are not normally on public display.

A spokesman for Aberdeen City Council said: "The launch day on November 19 will give local residents an opportunity for an early glimpse of what the Treasure Hub will offer and the chance to view a selection from our extensive range of collections, now construction is complete.

"In the weeks ahead we will be concluding the final stages of readying the building for the return of all of the collections and once this has been completed we will be in a position to confirm the visitor access details.

"Given the precious nature of the items being stored, there is a very clear process to be followed."

Plans for the centre were approved with the expectation that it would be ready to store the city's collection when Aberdeen Art Gallery closed for refurbishment in 2015.

Councillors were warned as far back as 2009 that the lack of an alternative storage facility could delay work on the gallery and push up costs.
