A public consultation is to be held to shape a review of the third Don crossing in Aberdeen.

The Diamond Bridge over the River Don opened in June several months late and nearly £7m over budget.

On Tuesday, Aberdeen City Council confirmed a review into the £22.3m project is to be held and it has called on input from community councils in the area.

The local authority said the exercise will look at traffic flows, driving practices and noise associated with the crossing between Tillydrone and the Bridge of Don, among other topics.

The council's transport and regeneration spokesman Ross Grant said: "From the outset, we committed to working with the surrounding communities at the start of the project to make sure it works for them as much as possible, and the review is part of this process.

"We'd love to hear from people - via the community councils - what topics should be included in the review and if there are any extra we have not considered already.

"I'd encourage people to get in touch with the community councils on both sides of the River Don to provide the feedback for the review."

The Diamond Bridge was scheduled to be completed in late 2015 at a cost of around £15.5m. Problems with bad weather, difficulty rerouting underground utilities and the death of a construction worker pushed the project back.

When the scheme was first discussed by city councillors in 2005, it was expected to cost around £6.3m.
