Two teenagers have been charged over vandalism that caused more than £20,000 in damage at a school.

A 14-year-old girl and a man aged 18 have been reported by police over the incident at Markethill Primary School in Turriff.

Aberdeenshire Council was forced to shut the school to pupils and staff on Monday and Tuesday because of the damage caused.

A stained glass window at the school was smashed, while units and computers were damaged.

Food, including eggs and flour, were thrown about the school during the incident on Sunday.

The school reopened on Wednesday, while the council thanked "everyone involved in the clear-up".

Detective sergeant George Nixon, investigating officer, said: "I would like to thank the local community for all assistance and information provided during our investigation, and for your patience while necessary enquiries were carried out at the school."

Anyone with further information relating to the incident is asked to contact the police on 101.
