A former RAF nursery worker who assaulted an eight-month-old baby girl has been struck off.

Jenna Paterson injured the child by handling her roughly while changing her nappy in December 2015.

Ms Paterson, who worked in the childcare centre at RAF Lossiemouth at the time, was babysitting the girl while her parents were at a party.

The carer admitted assaulting the baby at Elgin Sheriff Court in June, prompting the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) to launch its own inquiry.

It branded her actions "violent and abusive" and said they demonstrated a "loss of self-control".

The SSSC has now struck Ms Paterson off its register, preventing her from working in social services in Scotland.

Ms Paterson was ordered to carry out 135 hours of unpaid work when she appeared in court.
