A drug dealer caught storing more than £100,000 of cocaine and heroin for London-based gangsters has been jailed for six years.

Robert Bell, 62, was arrested after police received intelligence in July 2016 that he was storing substances at a property on Hilton Drive in Aberdeen.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how officers raided the property on July 22.

Bell arrived at the house ten minutes after officers entered. Detectives found he had drugs stored in the inside pocket of his jacket.

He then said: "I've got more in my house, in the cupboard."

When police searched Bell's home in Hutcheon Court they found he was in possession of drugs with a maximum street value of £107,300.

The story emerged after Bell, a prisoner of HMP Grampian, appeared for sentencing in Edinburgh before judge Kenneth Maciver QC on Thursday.

He had pleaded guilty to being involved in the supply of cocaine and heroin at an earlier court appearance.

At the earlier court appearance, Mr Maciver heard how London-based gangsters had muscled their way into the Granite City's narcotics trade.

Police had received intelligence that Bell stored drugs on behalf of the gangsters and delivered them to various addresses in Aberdeen.

During his police interview, Bell admitted his involvement with the drugs gang.

He told officers he would be paid £20 to £30 for each delivery he made.

The court heard Bell told officers he was "happy" to carry out the deliveries for the drugs gang and he was "greedy" for the money.

He also told officers he had been involved with the drugs trade for the past five years.

Passing sentence, Mr Maciver told Bell he would have been jailed for nine years if it was not for his guilty plea.
