A Christmas tree described as the worst in Scotland is set to get a festive makeover.

Organisers Living Lerwick said they ran out of time to decorate the tree properly before the lights were switched on in Shetland on Saturday.

One local described it on social media as a "godless eyesore", while another called it the "worst Christmas tree in the country".

Living Lerwick plans to redecorate the 25ft Norwegian fir on Sunday.

A spokesman said: "The tree was erected late and various issues with the other main Christmas lights across the street meant we ran out of time to get the tree lights on properly before our parade.

"It doesn't look how we had planned but we had to have something to switch on for the parade."

Hundreds of Shetlanders turned out to watch the Christmas lights parade, which included a brass band and members of this year's Up Helly Aa viking procession.
