A 41-year-old man is in a critical condition after being rescued from a ground-floor flat fire.

The emergency services were called to the property on King's Crescent in Aberdeen at 5.45am on Monday.

The injured man is now being treated at the city's Royal Infirmary and nobody else is believed to have been injured.

The north end of King's Crescent and Jute Street were closed to allow emergency services to carry out enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We responded along with the fire brigade to a call to an address on King's Crescent at 5.45am on Monday.

"An adult male was taken to hospital in a serious condition. There were no other injuries."
