A football fan has been fined after recklessly throwing stadium seats at another supporter.

Daniel Begg, 21, picked up the chairs during a heated match between Aberdeen and Rangers at Pittodrie Stadium.

Begg, a Rangers fan who had been sitting at the away end, then hurled the seats into a crowd of people, with Stuart Rennie been struck twice on the head by them.

Police said Mr Rennie, understood to be an Aberdeen fan, did not suffer a serious injury.

The court refused a Crown motion for a football banning order stopping Begg from attending future games.

The incident happened on September 25, when the Dons welcomed Rangers to Pittodrie for their first league match in four years.

The game marked the first time the two clubs had met since the Glasgow side rejoined the top flight at the start of this season.

The match was heavily policed amid fiery tensions between fans on social media in the lead up to the game.

Begg, from Dundee, admitted the culpable and reckless behaviour when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday. He was fined £260 for the offence.
