More than 170 families have not returned to their homes in Aberdeenshire a year on from flooding that devastated parts of the north east.

About £11.5m has been spent in the aftermath of Storm Frank, which battered the UK for two days in late December last year and left hundreds homeless.

A total of 171 households and 17 businesses are yet to return to their properties in Aberdeenshire.

Repairs have been made to 145 bridges across the region and another 130 are still awaiting repairs.

It will cost about £1.5m to replace the destroyed Cambus o' May and Polhollick Bridges and no funding has been allocated yet.

A section of road near Loch Muick is also awaiting repair.

Aberdeenshire Council said it has accelerated flood studies in Ballater, Inverurie and Port Elphinstone.

Earlier this year, the Queen visited residents in Ballater, where 600 homes and 100 businesses were flooded.
