Pop icon Kylie Minogue left staff in an Aberdeenshire sweet shop stunned after popping in for a bag of soor plooms.

The Australian singer indulged her sweet tooth during a stop to Dee Valley Confectioners in the small burgh of Ballater on Friday morning.

Staff said the 48-year-old spent 15 minutes looking around the shop before buying a packet of boiled fruit sweets and a bag of soor plooms.

Wendy Anderson, who has worked at Dee Valley Confectioners for 30 years, kept having to double-take after the pop star unexpectedly walked into the store.

Wendy said: "I kept looking at her thinking, 'I know who that is'.

"I asked her where she was from and eventually I had to ask if she was who I thought she was.

"I knew who she was but I didn't want to be ignorant and just blurt it out.

"She spent a good 10-15 minutes in the shop and was very polite and talkative.

"Unfortunately she didn't go for the lucky, lucky tatties but she seemed very happy with the boiled sweets that she bought.

"It's not every day that a star like that walks in though on one occasion Eric Idle, Robin Williams and Steve Martin were all in the shop at the same time."
