Two wilful fires started in separate blocks of flats in Aberdeen are believed to be linked.

The first blaze broke out on North Anderson Drive at 1.20am on Friday.

The second was started a short distance away on Midstocket View at about 1.30am.

Police Scotland inspector Jon Millar said: "Enquiries are at an early stage, however, we believe these incidents are linked and I would appeal for anyone with information to contact Police.

"Thankfully no one was injured and everyone accounted for, however, I can't stress enough the dangers of starting fires within residential properties.

"You don't know how the situation will develop and it goes without saying that the consequences of such reckless behaviour could have fatal consequences. It won't be tolerated.

"I would urge anyone with information about these incidents, or anyone who saw anything suspicious in either area, to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters will visit local residents to offer safety advice.
