An armed thief threatened a shopworker with a knife during a robbery at a newsagent.

The man made off with more than £100 and cigarettes from Adie's Self Service on Bedford Road in Aberdeen at 6.30pm on Friday.

He was last seen a short distance away on a lane at the rear of Sunnyside Road.

Detective sergeant Andy Machray said: "Nobody was injured as a result of the incident, but the member of staff involved was left shaken.

"I would ask anybody who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious to get in touch with us.

"It is also possible that anybody in Bedford Road or the surrounding area may have seen the man involved either before or after he was at the shop."

The thief was described as a white man in his early 20s, wearing casual clothing and a blue top.

Anyone with any information has been asked to call Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
