A delivery driver has died after his van ran off an icy road and hit a tree.

The man, who was in his 60s, was fatally injured when the JG Ross bakery van crashed on Burghmuir Road in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, at about 5.15am on Thursday.

The road was shut for several hours following the collision but has since reopened.

Police Scotland inspector Jon Barron said: "Our thoughts are obviously with everyone affected by this tragic incident at this very sad time.

"Enquiries are at an early stage and I would urge anyone with information to contact police on 101."
