A CCTV image of a man believed to be carrying ice skates has been released after a serious assault in Aberdeen city centre.

The victim was left with serious head injuries after the "unprovoked" attack on Union Street at around 12.45am on November 24.

The man, who was captured on CCTV, was seen carrying a pair of ice skates or roller skates over his shoulder.

He is described as being mid 20s, approximately 5ft 9in, of slim build with medium scruffy dark hair. He was wearing a grey jacket, dark top, dark trousers, dark shoes, and was carrying a green rucksack.

Constable Thomas Spencer said: "This was an unprovoked attack resulting in a male sustaining a serious injury to his head.

"Assaults of this nature have a significant impact on the life of the victim. I would appeal to anyone who recognises the male pictured or has any knowledge of this incident to come forward and contact the police."
