A man suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing his car into a lamp post.

The Honda Jazz crashed on Constitution Street in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, at around 12.30pm on Friday.

The 26-year-old driver was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, where he is still being treated.

The road was completely closed for at least three hours while firefighters worked to make the area safe.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Rob Warnock said: "Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are at an early stage and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the blue Honda Jazz prior to the collision to contact Police Scotland on 101."
