A murder suspect is due to stand trial over a fatal fire which happened nearly 19 years ago.

Barry Henderson is charged with killing Gordon Graham, 43, in a blaze in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire in May 1998.

Prosecutors claim the 42-year-old wilfully set fire to materials in a stair and landing area in High Street before the fire "took effect" at two flats.

Mr Graham lived in one, while Anne Graham, who Henderson is accused of attempting to murder, lived in the other.

Henderson faces two other charges alleged to have happened on the same date as the blaze.

He is accused of assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Fraserburgh and of committing a breach of the peace at a nearby car park.

Henderson also faces another charge that he behaved in a threatening manner on a bus last November.

He appeared during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, when his QC Brian McConnachie entered not guilty pleas on his behalf.

Judge Lady Rae set a trial date for July in Glasgow. The case could last between four and five weeks.

Henderson, of Fraserburgh, had his bail continued in the meantime.
