Eight fans have been charged over reports of fighting after a Scottish Cup football match.

The group are due to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court on Friday following the game between Elgin City and Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday, January 21.

Four males aged between 16 and 20 have been charged over an alleged disturbance after the match at Borough Briggs football ground in Elgin.

Three 16-year-old boys and a 22-year-old have been charged under the Offensive Behaviour in Football Act in connection with alleged incidents inside the ground.

Police Scotland's Moray chief inspector Stewart Mackie said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the vast majority of the 4000 fans who attended and ensured the match was, on the whole, a safe and enjoyable event."

Scottish Premiership side Inverness won the match against League Two team Elgin 2-1.

Four of the people charged are from Elgin and four are from Inverness.
