IT problems at NHS Grampian knocked out computers and phones on Wednesday morning.

Staff at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary were locked out of their files from 7.30am to around 11am.

The disruption began when upgrades to IT systems at the Foresterhill Health Campus went awry.

The work, which was only expected to take an hour, was not linked to the recent cyber attack on the NHS, a spokeswoman said.

"Planned IT work on the Foresterhill Health Campus overran, leading to some disruption accessing networks and using telephones," she added.

"Emergency systems in the hospitals remained available throughout and the issues are now being resolved.

"We are grateful to our staff for their patience while systems were unavailable."

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary remained open to patients, although work in the hospital's labs and other departments was halted by the glitch.
