A young girl allegedly involved in a viral school bullying video has been charged.

The 12-year-old has been referred to the Youth Justice Management Unit following reports of the violent footage appearing online.

The video was apparently filmed in a school gym hall in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.

It was posted on social media on Tuesday and quickly gained thousands of likes, shares and comments mostly from people concerned or angry about the behaviour.

A police spokesman said: "Following reports to police and footage on social media of an alleged assault involving young females in the Fraserburgh area on Tuesday, May 23, we can confirm that a 12-year-old girl has been charged and will be reported to the Youth Justice Management Unit.
