A car has plunged into a loch after crashing off a coastal road.

The incident happened on the A828 at Barcaldine in Argyll just after 12.30pm on Tuesday.

A man, who was the only occupant of the car, is understood to have escaped to safety after plunging into Loch Creran.

Paramedics are treating the man for injuries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We were called to a report of a vehicle in the sea. A man has managed to get out of the car.

"It looks like he has come off the road but he has managed to get out of the water."
