A mother-of-three from Dundee has become a millionaire weeks after carrying around the winning ticket in her handbag.

Shaheen Akhtar noticed the ticket in her bag weeks after originally purchasing it on Wednesday April 12 at a newsagents on Albert Street.

The 31-year-old took her ticket back to the shop and was told to call up Camelot who confirmed the £1m prize.

Ms Akhtar said: "I ran to the shop where I bought the ticket and asked them to check it again. When it's a big win it doesn't tell the retailer the amount and the shopkeeper advised me to call the National Lottery Line.

"I came home and started to call my family to let them know the good news. Most of them were in disbelief and asked things like 'Are you mad?'. Once I explained that I really had won everyone was really happy for me.

"I never used to believe I would win but then one day I was walking past a shop and saw an advert for a big jackpot. I thought why not try it."

It is not the first time she has won a prize, picking up £250 from a ticket 18 months ago.

And with £1m now in the bank Ms Akhatar already has a fair idea of what she plans to do with her winnings.

She said: "We currently live in a three-bedroom house. Now my husband and I will be able to buy a bigger home where the children can have their own bedrooms, which they are very excited about.

"I've always wanted to go to Dubai, but it was too expensive before, so we will definitely be going on a holiday there. It will also be nice to go shopping and treat myself as it always tends to be for the children."
