Two sailors have been rescued from the Moray Firth after their dinghy capsized in stormy conditions.

The men were thrown from the boat when it went down at noon on Wednesday.

They were in the water for more than half an hour and suffering from hypothermia before the alarm was raised and suffering.

The pair were flown to Raigmore Hospital after being picked up by the Kessock RNLI lifeboat but are not believed to be in a life-threatening condition.

Helmsman Stan MacRae said: "The dingy started taking on water because of the conditions and the men found they couldn't bail it out fast enough, which led to the capsize.

"When we assessed their condition it was obvious they needed further medical attention and the best thing to do was to get them winched into the helicopter and away to hospital as fast as possible."

After rescuing the sailors the Kessock RNLI team returned to the scene and retrieved their dinghy.
