A driver who died after a tree fell on his car during high winds has been named.

Scott Pankhurst, from Dundee, was killed when his vehicle was crushed on the A85 two miles east of Gilmerton, near Crieff, in Perthshire.

The 42-year-old was also known as Scott Finnie.

Emergency services closed the road in both directions following the crash at 8pm on Tuesday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Inquiries into the full set of circumstances of the incident are ongoing and Tayside Division would appeal for anyone who may have information that could assist officers with their enquiries to contact 101.

"As with all sudden deaths a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal."
