A man has been killed in an industrial accident, thought to have involved a forestry harvester.

The 82-year-old man died following the incident near Kintore in Aberdeenshire.

Police and ambulance crews were called but the man is understood to have been pronounced dead at the scene.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been alerted and is investigating the incident, which happened at 2.30pm on Friday.

Detective inspector Alan Armit said: "Police, along with HSE officers, have been making enquiries into the circumstances.

"As with all sudden deaths a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

"Next of kin are aware and our thoughts are with them at this time."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We received a call to attend an incident near Kintore.

"We dispatched two ambulances to the scene. One crew was later stood down."
