A bed and breakfast that described itself as "heterosexual friendly" has avoided being taken to court by the equality watchdog.

Cromasaig B&B in Wester Ross was accused of homophobic discrimination over the comment on its website, which also featured a graphic stating "man + woman = marriage".

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) in Scotland wrote to owners Tom and Liz Forrest asking them to take the statement and image down from its site.

When this request was not followed, the commission sought a court order requiring the phrasing be removed.

At this point, the owners voluntarily removed the comment and picture from their website and the court order was halted.

EHRC Scotland said the case raised questions about the continued prevalence of homophobic discrimination in Scotland.

Lynn Welsh, of the EHRC, said: "I am pleased that the owners of Cromasaig Bed and Breakfast have agreed to remove these phrases.

"Removing the phrases will have no negative impact on their business and alleviates EHRC's concerns."

Cromasaig B&B has previously appeared in the media after allegedly discriminating against potential customers who are gay.

Speaking to STV in 2010, Mr Forrest insisted gay men and lesbians were welcome to stay in twin rooms but added: "I will refuse point blank to allow them to share a double bed.

"I do not approve of the homosexual act and any act of intercourse should be between a man and a woman.

"It's nothing to do with the Bible; it's to do with nature."
