A woman has been freed from the wreckage of a car after a crash on the A93 in Aberdeenshire.

Part of the road was closed following the incident at 9.25am on Friday in Inchmarlo, just outside Banchory.

Fire crews used cutting equipment to free the trapped female driver from a green Renault Megane.

The car was the only vehicle involved.

Diversions have been put in place through Glassel Road after the route was blocked in both directions.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said her injuries are serious but not believed to be life threatening.

She has been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Two fire engines and 11 firefighters attended the scene.
