Pupils and staff were evacuated from a high school after a fire broke out at the building.

Part of Perth High School on Oakbank Road went up in flames at around 10.45am on Friday.

Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a covering jet to extinguish the flames.

Two appliances attended the incident.

The blaze was put out by 11.20pm.

Crew members have begun cutting away parts of the fire-damaged building, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said.

Perth and Kinross Council said in a post on Facebook: "A small isolated fire broke out at Perth High School this morning.

"The incident has been dealt with by the fire service and classes will resume this afternoon."

Police confirmed three young people had been detained in connection with the blaze, which is being treated as suspicious.
