An injured climber has been rescued after falling in the northern Cairngorms.

The alarm was raised at 5.30pm on Saturday following the incident at Shelterstone Crag.

The Braemar, Cairngorms and Aberdeen mountain rescue teams were scrambled, along with a coastguard helicopter.

The climber was lowered 500ft to the ground from a ledge and then flown to hospital.

A spokesman for Braemar Mountain Rescue said: "We were called out at 5.30pm to a fallen climber of Shelterstone Crag.

"It was a joint response, a good effort all round and hopefully a speedy recovery for the injured party."
