A murder inquiry has been launched after a man's body was found at a house in Aberdeenshire.

Police were called to Fernie Place in Fraserburgh at around 4am on Sunday following what they described as a "large-scale disturbance".

They discovered the body of Gary Clampett within a home a short time later.

The 39-year-old's death is being treated as murder but detectives say enquiries are at an early stage.

On Sunday morning riot police were seen entering a house on Fernie Place, while forensics officers worked nearby.

Detective inspector Gary Winter, who is leading the inquiry, said: "An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder of Gary Clampett is underway.

"Our thoughts are with Gary's family and friends. Police will remain in the area while our enquiries are ongoing. We are following a number of lines of enquiry.

"I would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to this incident or private CCTV in the area of Fernie Place to please come forward."
