A woman has been airlifted to hospital after falling down a cliff.

Coastguard teams were called to the incident at Newtonhill Bay in Aberdeenshire at around 9.30pm on Friday.

A climber, 25, who was part of a group, fell backwards onto rocks before ambulance crews were alerted.

The woman suffered hip, back and head injuries and was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Her injuries are not believed to be serious.

An RNLI spokesman said: "The helicopter arrived at 11pm and the casualty was winched aboard.

"At 11.43pm the Rescue 951 headed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with the casualty and her partner."
