An exploding gas cylinder set fire to a lorry and showered a nearby house with debris.

The cylinder blew up while it was being delivered to the property in Moray on Wednesday morning.

The emergency services were called to Rothes shortly before 9am and firefighters had the blaze under control within an hour.

A woman and two children were inside the house but nobody is believed to have been seriously injured.

Windows were smashed by flying shrapnel and the lorry was left badly damaged, however.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 8.44am on Wednesday, we received a report of a gas explosion outside a property in Moray.

"Two appliances were immediately mobilised to the scene located off the A91 near Rothes.

"Firefighters used a high-powered hose to tackle flames, which were affecting an outbuilding, while paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service treated two casualties.

"Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe."
