Two people were trapped after a crash on a main road.

The collision happened on the A941 three miles north of Rothes, Moray, on Thursday at 12.50pm.

The crash involved a white Volkswagen van and a silver Mitsubishi SUV.

Fire crews had to cut two people free, with one being taken to hospital.

Police closed the road while the vehicles were uplifted.

An air ambulance was also called but it was later stood down.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We dispatched three ambulances, our special operations response team and a British Association of Immediate Care Scotland doctor to the scene.

"One patient has been taken to hospital by road."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: "We used hydrallic cutting gear to free two people."
