A mother and daughter were trapped after a car careered off a road and smashed into a tree.

The crash happened on the A93 near Aboyne in Aberdeenshire at 10.20am on Friday.

Fire crews had to cut two people free from the vehicle.

A mother and daughter are understood to have been involved and were taken to hospital.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "Two people were trapped and they have now been cut free using cutting gear."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We dispatched two ambulances to the scene.

"Two female patients were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary."
