A Scout hut has been destroyed after being set on fire intentionally.

The wooden structure at Daviot, Aberdeenshire, burned down on Sunday evening.

Police believe the blaze was started on purpose at around 6.40pm.

The hut was used by a number of Scout troops from across the north east.

A spokeswoman said: "Scouting is important for many young people in and around the north east and it is so disappointing that a hut has been destroyed.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland."
