A man has been airlifted to hospital after being injured at a rugby pitch in Aberdeenshire.

Just before 5pm on Saturday, emergency services were called out to Redcloak rugby pitches in Stonehaven with reports that a person had suffered a neck injury.

The air ambulance was called and the injured man was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal infirmary.

A police spokesman said: "At 4.48pm emergency services received a call that a male had been injured near Redcloak rugby pitch.

"An air ambulance attended the scene and the man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

"It is not known how serious his injuries are at this time."

The rugby pitch is frequently used for matches by the Mackie Academy youth group.
